How to get API key for wordpress and why do we need API Key?

WordPress API Key grants you the permission to use various WordPress services, for example, Akismet- An Anti-spam service of WordPress.

In order to get an API key, you need to register at official WordPress website http://wordpress.com/signup/ , the key will be sent with a welcome email.

You can see your API key from WordPress Dashboard.
